Introducing the AI Assistant: Use AI in Pumble to Reduce Tool Switching

Updates Featured Image

The AI Assistant add-on for Pumble is finally here. Now, you can chat with your AI model of choice without ever leaving the Pumble UI!

Here are the details.

About Pumble’s AI Assistant

The AI Assistant add-on is an integration that connects your Pumble workspace and your AI model of choice (ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, etc.). By installing the add-on, you can enable all users to access the AI within Pumble’s UI.

Users can chat with it directly through DMs by clicking on AI Assistant in the Apps section of the left sidebar and using the Messages tab. Each message will serve as a new chat, and each chat will continue in a thread.

Users can also @mention the AI Assistant within channels where it has been added, and it will respond. If the AI Assistant isn’t part of a channel when you @mention it, you’ll get a prompt to add it. And if you do, it will look at the last @mention and respond to it in a thread.

In addition to chatting with the AI Assistant as you would normally, you can also use the /ai-summarize function to have it help you make sense of previous messages in a thread.

Benefits of using Pumble’s AI Assistant

Reduces tool switching

The main benefit of this add-on is that it reduces tool switching. The feature prevents you from having to change tabs every time you want to go from Pumble to Gemini/ChatGPT or back.

Tool switching is known to reduce productivity, so just getting rid of it is a substantial benefit. But that’s not all!

Provides thread summaries

The built-in summarize command also allows you to quickly catch up with what’s going on in any given thread.

Without this feature, something like this would require even more steps than just task switching. For instance, you would need to copy the thread manually to the AI model and then explain what you want it to summarize.

What about users who don’t want AI?

The AI Assistant add-in is completely optional. It’s not installed on your Pumble workspace by default. So if you don’t go out of your way to install it, your Pumble workspace won’t have AI.

How to set up the AI Assistant add-on

Only Admins and Owners can add the AI Assistant to a Pumble workspace, but once they do so, all users can use this feature.

To add it to your workspace:

This installs the add-on in your workspace, but you still have to connect it to the AI model of your choice. You do this by using the API key:

  1. Click on the AI Assistant in the left sidebar.
  2. Click on Configure provider in the Home tab.
  3. Select an AI model.
  4. Paste the API key.
  5. Click Configure.

You can connect several models, though the first one will be the default model. Users can change which model they use manually.

Speaking of, each user will have to authorize the add-on for their Pumble account, just as they would do for any other add-on.
